EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State head volleyball coach Cathy George coached the U.S. Women's National A2 Red Team to the 2008 USA Adult Open Division Volleyball Championships held at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Ga. this past weekend.

The USA A2 Red Team beat Huskies VBC, the University of Washington collegiate team, 3-1, in the gold medal match on Tuesday. The USA A2 Blue Team took home the bronze medal.

George and University of Texas head coach Jerritt Elliott, the A2 Blue coach, conducted training of 20 selected collegiate student-athletes before the championships and split the student-athletes into two teams for competition in the championships.

USA Volleyball has showcased its USA Adult Open Volleyball Championships for 79 years since the organization's founding in 1928. Except for 1943 and 1944 during the height of World War II, the Open has been a mainstay celebrating adult volleyball nationally. The event is one of the largest national championships in any sport in the United States, and the Open has featured the sport of volleyball from coast-to-coast.

This was George's second experience working with USA Volleyball, having been an assistant coach for the United States team at the 1999 World University Games in Mallorca, Spain.
