Nicole Bush Earns All-America Honors, Places Fifth in 3,000-meter Steeplechase at NCAA Track and Field Championships
Sophomore Nicole Bush (Wyoming, Mich.) shattered her previous school record and earned All-America honors by placing fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase late Friday night at the NCAA Track and Field Championships. In the semifinals, Bush ran the event in school-record fashion in 10:09.67, but in the finals, she surpassed that mark with a time of 10:01.04. By placing fifth, she earned four points for Michigan State and becomes just the second Spartan in program history to garner All-America accolades in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (Ann Somerville, 2002).

MSU Names Walt Drenth Director of Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country
In a move to reorganize the track and field and cross country programs, Walt Drenth has been named the director of men's and women's track and field and cross country, according to an announcement made by Athletics Director Ron Mason on Friday, June 2. Drenth was appointed head coach of the men's track and field team on May 11 and is entering his third year as the men's cross country head coach. Drenth will now handle the additional duties of directing the women's track and field and cross country programs.

Nicole Bush Places Fourth in 3,000-meter Steeplechase At NCAA Mideast Regional Championships
Sophomore Nicole Bush (Wyoming, Mich.) ran her first career 3,000-meter steeplechase race this April. Now, she will be running the event at the NCAA Championships. Bush placed fourth at the NCAA Women's Mideast Track and Field Championships on Saturday to advance to the NCAA Championships June 7-10 in Sacramento, Calif. Bush ran the race in 10:16.29, her second-fastest time of the season.

Spartans Complete Day One At NCAA Women's Mideast Regional Track and Field Championships
Four Spartans competed Friday on day one of the NCAA Women's Mideast Regional Track and Field Championships at the Tom Black Track on the campus of Tennessee. Senior Taren James (Long Beach, Calif.), who finished second in the long jump at the Big Ten Championships with a personal-best leap of 6.15 meters, jumped 5.67 meters (18-7 1/4) on Friday to place 22nd.

Six Spartans To Compete At NCAA Mideast Women's Track and Field Championships
Five Spartans will compete this weekend (May 26-27) at the NCAA Mideast Women's Track and Field Championships held at the Tom Black Track on the campus of Tennessee. The top-five finishers in the individual events automatically advance to the NCAA Championship meet June 7-10 on the campus of Sacramento State University.

Gebauer And James Earn All-Conference Accolades
Michigan State seniors Brad Gebauer and Taren James were named to the All-Big Ten men's and women's outdoor track and field teams, respectively, the conference announced Thursday afternoon. Gebauer captured the conference's pole-vault title, clearing a height of 5.15 meters, while James claimed the triple-jump crown with a leap of 12.35 meters, on Sunday, May 14, the final day of championship competition.

Taren James Captures Big Ten Triple Jump Crown
For the fifth straight year, Michigan State captured an individual title at the Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships as senior Taren James (Long Beach, Calif) won the triple jump crown with a leap of 12.35 meters on the final day of competition Sunday afternoon at Ralph Young Field. James, who placed second in the long jump on Saturday, finished just 0.01 meters ahead of Illinois' Kristina Jones, earning 10 points for the Spartans. Overall, MSU finished 10th with a team total of 41 points. Minnesota captured the team title with a score of 152.50, while Michigan was a close second with 134.67 points, followed by Penn State, who rounded out the top-three with a 115.00 total. CSTV will air the Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships on a tape-delay basis on Monday, May 22 at 9 p.m.
